This Specialty was a year of firsts for the club....For most of the Board, this Specialty was their first to plan and host from start to finish so we truly appreciated everyone's input and patience with some of the minor fumbles and slips this past year in the planning and execution. We learned ALOT for making the 2006 Specialty run like clockwork. We suffered not having the expertise and history of David and Joanne Brown as our Show Secretaries first time in 10 years and learned the ropes working with MB-F - our new Show Secretary. We also hosted our first post-Specialty Dinner and it was well received with the food receiving high marks for the hotel/banquet fair we are all used to. David Salson of Pampered Paws generously donated the raffle item, helping us raise money for the animal relief efforts caused by Hurricanes in the South this past September and October. SSCNC had a silent auction for the 7 centerpiece items at the banquet. These hand painted one-of-a-kind clay pots featured a variety of schnauzers in autumn mischief . We tried to please everyone with each pot featuring a unique schnauzer from the black to the PnS to the show stance to the puppies before their croppings. The silent auction, as you can imagine, was the usual schnauzer crowd jockeying to be the last name on the list to purchase the pot of choice - raising several hundred dollars in the process.
Sweeps Judge, Lucille Warren, and Conformation Judge, Christina Hubbell, joined us for dinner and commented that they were pleased with the "future" they saw in the young dogs out in Sweeps and the Puppy Classes this year. Both Judges also commented on the hospitality and friendliness of our local Schnauzer community. Judge Hubbell was very honored to have been chosen for this assignment and appreciated the experience of truly learning about and putting hands on this breed and understanding exactly why we are all so passionate about this breed. She even postulated that she could see herself owning a Standard Schnauzer in the future.
